DW Karkonosze, Świnoujście | Holistic synergy of interior and landscape

Public Spaces | 2021

One of my earlier, fully mature realizations. Designing simultaneously the ground-floor interiors (reception and dining room) and the surroundings of the building, I created a cohesive ecosystem in which nature and architecture mutually permeate each other.

  • Evergreen Picture Behind the Glass: The main concept was to create an intense, almost exotic plant backdrop that affects guests especially during the winter months. Thanks to the enormous glazing of the dining room, the dense, "swaying" bamboos and carpets of ivy on the slope become an integral part of the interior, bringing life and saturated color throughout the year.
  • Added Spatial Value: In intimate interiors where every square metre is precious, I treated the garden as a "green extension" of the building. As a result, the dining room gained visual depth and prestige, despite the lack of space for traditional potted plants.
  • Breaking Boundaries: The bold introduction of nature inside – including the planting of maples in a ground-level planter inside the entrance vestibule (requiring intervention in the flooring) – blurred the boundaries between what is inside and outside.
  • Detail and Durability: The whole was completed by my bespoke zinc designs (bar top, seating) and Art Nouveau details, which together with the mature vegetation today form a hushed, "hidden" enclave in the heart of the seaside district.
